“STEP” Pedagogy Manual
Leader aidThe elements of each meeting: State of the Heart, Truth, Equipping, Prayer — all done in community together (STEP).
During this journey of The Path Discipleship, the elements of each meeting we will engage with are State of the Heart, Truth, Equipping, Prayer - all done in community together (STEP).
Our desire is that as we continue The Path, engaging with the STEP elements, we will become equipped followers of Christ! Discussing the Spirit’s work in our lives, diving into God’s Word and prayerfully applying that work will produce fruitful discipleship to be multiplied in the future. As you considering leading a Path Group, which of the elements of STEP would be easy for you to lead? Which could be a challenge?
STATE OF YOUR HEART
How are you coming into our meeting? Can you identify two to three emotions to capture the current state of your heart and briefly share why you are feeling that way? Being able to identify how you are affected in a moment empowers you to engage from your whole heart more effectively. This allows a team to connect with each other beyond the material and gives a means for experiencing the grace of Christ together.
TRUTH
We want Scripture to be our guide and for the Holy Spirit to lead in applying God’s Word to our hearts. To develop a habit of personal worship, we must spend daily time in the Word of God, grappling with verses, and giving our best effort to answer thoughtful questions.
EQUIPPING
How should we respond? How do we move, by the power of the Spirit, towards application. Each equipping section of The Path contains thought-provoking questions that allow the opportunity for exploring the whole heart (thoughts, emotions, deep desires, and choices).
PRAYER
Prayer is privilege, power, and permission to express our neediness and humility to be Lord. How do I need the Lord to work in me? Has something been exposed in me or the world around me where I need to ask for the Lord to work? Prayer is a means of grace God uses to carry out His mission.
Togetherness - All of this is meant to be done in the context of community. “The Christ in his own heart is weaker than the Christ in the word of his brother; his own heart is uncertain, his brother’s is sure.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together
